Giovanni P. Tomasi
President
Chief Technology Officer

It’s no wonder that Gio Tomasi studied physics while in college. In many ways, the success of RSL Fiber Systems, which he co-founded in 2001, is all about “physics” – that is, the dynamic, interactive and conducive environment he has nurtured, and which has been so central to the company’s growth and prosperity.

For Tomasi, a recognized leader in the fiber optic cable industry with more than 25 years as an entrepreneur, senior executive and development engineer, success is all about putting the right people in the right place at the right time to allow the “magic” to happen – the unabashed exchange of inspiration, knowledge and ideas that results in the most innovative solutions to the most difficult technological challenges.

“We have a dynamic environment here where we exchange ideas without worrying about titles or chains of command,” Tomasi says. “It’s critical for me to step back and let the ‘chemistry’ happen.”

That chemistry has made RSL Fiber Systems a multi-time winner of the Connecticut Technology Council/Marcum LLP Award as Connecticut’s fastest growing technology company in advanced manufacturing.

Tomasi, a graduate of Fairfield University who continued his electrical engineering studies at the University of Connecticut, started his career at BICC Brand-Rex and over the course of 15 years with the company established Brand-Rex as a primary producer and supplier of fiber optic cables for military and space applications. Always focused on finding new and innovative ways that fiber optics can solve real-world problems, Tomasi later led the development and qualification efforts for military shipboard fiber optic and remote source lighting cables at DRAKA USA. Yearning to make his own mark, in 2000 Tomasi formed Skyler Technologies Group, Inc., which focuses on the creation of businesses in fiber optics, applied optics and advanced illumination systems. RSL Fiber Systems is a Skyler Technologies Group company.

A dedicated researcher, Tomasi’s work has been published in numerous photonic and fiber optic cable industry publications. He serves as president of the Connecticut Optics and Photonics Association, sits on the board of GrowJobsCT, and has been a long-time member of the Steering Committee of Three Rivers Community College’s Photonics Program. An avid and vocal supporter of American manufacturing, Tomasi serves on the committee for Connecticut Next Generation Manufacturing. A former competitive skier, Tomasi is a performance driving instructor in his spare time, teaches safety and car control skills to teens, and also teaches religious education at St. James Parish in Manchester, Connecticut.
