RSL Fiber Systems is the sole-source provider of remote source lighting applications for the U.S. Navy for shipboard use on the Navy experimental craft “Sea Fighter”, the LPD 17 and the DDG 1000 stealth class ships. Since 2005, RSL has installed more than 50 high-performance fiber optic lighting systems on Navy ships, including signaling and navigation lights for the USS Invincible and the USS New York, one of the Navy’s newest vessels with the keel built using steel from the World Trade Center. RSL also provides shipboard lighting solutions for the Italian FREMM class frigate.
The company has also partnered with Denmark's Lopolight Aps to establish a leading-edge maritime lighting technology powerhouse offering a broad range of innovative lighting systems solutions and engineering services, including high-performance LED navigation lights and innovative waterline security lights, geared toward the most demanding navy and commercial applications.
RSL systems have solved and are continuing to solve difficult illumination challenges aboard existing and next-generation Navy vessels, including the provision of maintenance-free lighting devices, elimination of EMI/RFI and a reduction in lifecycle costs. RSL continues to work closely with the Navy and is counted upon as a key technology partner and resource, and offers comprehensive lighting systems engineering services specifically tailored to fleet maintenance. RSL has representatives in all U.S. Navy ship homeports, available to perform maintenance and training as needed. In 2009, the company presented a new, innovative concept leveraging fiber optic technology for a renewable energy system at the Naval Energy Forum.
